Fish species of greatest conservation need in wadeable Iowa streams: status, habitat associations, and effectiveness of species distribution models
نویسنده
چکیده
Effective conservation of fish species of greatest conservation need (SGCN) requires an understanding of species-habitat relationships and distributional trends. Thus, modeling the distribution of fish species across large spatial scales may serve as a potentially valuable tool for conservation planning. Our goals were to evaluate the status of 10 Iowa fish SGCN in wadeable Iowa streams and test the effectiveness of Iowa Aquatic Gap Analysis Project (IAGAP) species distribution models. We sampled fish assemblages from 86 wadeable stream segments in the Mississippi River drainage of Iowa during 2009 and 2010 to provide contemporary, independent fish species presence-absence data. Frequencies of occurrence in stream segments where species were historically documented varied from 0.0% for redfin 1 Author for correspondence 2 Department of Natural Resource Ecology and Management, Iowa State University 3 U.S. Geological Survey, Iowa Cooperative Fish and Wildlife Research Unit, Department of Natural Resource Ecology and Management, Iowa State University 4 U.S. Geological Survey, Idaho Cooperative Fish and Wildlife Research Unit, Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources, University of Idaho

Snow-fed river Pinder -a tributary of river Alaknanda in central Himalaya was explored for fish assemblages and habitat specificity. Altogether 27 fish species were reported from three orders, four families and nine genera. Cypriniformes order was dominating followed by Siluriformes and Salmoniformes. Shannon-Weiner diversity index (3.09 to 4.10) and Simpson index of diversity (0.81 to 0.92) of...

متن کاملRelationships of fish assemblages, instream physical habitat, and landscape characteristics of wadeable Iowa streams
Fish assemblages play a key role in stream ecosystems, and play a crucial role in the assessment of stream health. Physical habitat is a key component of stream ecosystems and plays a major role in determining biotic assemblages and stream integrity. There is increasing recognition of the role landscape factors play in determining biotic assemblages and stream integrity. Landscapes in Iowa and ...
متن کاملModeling the current and future suitable habitat distribution of Fritillaria imperialis under climate change scenarios and using three general circulation model in Iran
Climate change may pose challenges to the conservation of plant species such as the Fritillaria imperialis that have narrow geographical distribution. In this study, the modeling suitable habitats of F.imperialis in Iran was done in the current condition and under climate change (2050). For this purpose, 78 species presence data along with 12 environmental variables including bioclimatic, physi...
